Isles of Scilly -
Mary's is the largest island of the Isles of Scilly, an
archipelago off the southwest coast of Cornwall in England.
The main town, Hugh Town (Cornish: Tre Huw), was sold to the
inhabitants by the British crown in 1949. The rest of the island
belongs to the Duchy of Cornwall. Other settlements on the island
are Old Town, Porthloo, Holy Vale, Maypole, Rocky Hill and
The island became the home of British Prime Minister Harold Wilson
and his final resting place after his death in 1995.
St. Mary's is the only island within the Isles of Scilly with a
significant road network; in 2005 there were 619 cars and vans on St
Mary's. The island also has taxis, Conducted Bus & Coach Tours,
(Island Rover Coach Tours) and a privately owned & operated bus
service. Vehicles on the islands are exempt from annual MOT tests.

apartment on the first and second floor of the house, sleeping 7/8
people, owned and run by Scillonians Sheila and Chris Thomas. We are
ideally situated a stones throw from Porthcressa's sandy beach and
only 5 minutes walk to the shops, pubs and harbour.
We offer a warm friendly welcome with a happy and relaxed atmosphere
where guests are free to come and go as they please.
